Tom Petty’s manager has released a statement on behalf of his family confirming that the legendary performer has died. According to the statement, Petty died at approximately 11:40 PM EST surrounded by family, friends, and bandmates.
Earlier today, Tom Petty was found unresponsive after suffering from cardiac arrest in his home. After arriving at the hospital, it was determined that Petty had no brain activity and the family ultimately decided to remove him from life support.

“On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.— Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers on behalf of the family.”
Earlier today, there was confusion after several media outlets erroneously reported that Tom Petty had died. His daughter took to the web at the time to refute those claims and slam the outlets who reported that he had passed away.
